A very interesting article in Indoor Comfort News August issue. The article talks about how technicians can misdiagnose some of the most basic issues with an AC system, causing further, and in some cases – irreparable damage.
The article discusses a common approach to diagnosing issues with performance. This includes reviewing proper operating pressure numbers to determine issues with refrigerant. It goes on to discuss, as well as show with some terrific images, issue caused when coils are not operating at capacity. However, it saves the best for last. The issue identified has nothing to do with incorrect levels of refrigerant, instead clearly identifies the most basic of problems to solve. Clean the darn coils.
Our AC systems perform based on a sensitive balance of pressures and airflow. Airflow can quickly knock this balance of kilter and render the unit inefficient. A quick cleaning of the coils could be the answer.
The article and with a recommendation for a no-rinse coil cleaner. We’ll recommend something different in the CoilJet using SpeedyFoam. Many no rinse coil cleaners can be caustic and may not be sufficient to push dirt and debris lodged deep in the fins. CoilJet and SpeedyFoam foaming coil cleaner can get all that dirt and provide a biodegradable solution.
